Getting Enrolled and Certified at Hootsuite University

Hootsuite Certified ProfessionalAs I’ve previously posted here in the blog, I’ve been recently given the title as one of the Hootsuite Ambassador here in the Philippines. One of the perks of being an ambassador is having the access to Hootsuite University and get certified – which is really cool since we (as an ambassador) must know the brand and product that we represent.

I’m still on the Hootsuite Certification Courseware part wherein you’ll get to know more about the very useful features of Hootsuite, especially in managing your social media accounts for your business. But the learning doesn’t stop there, there are other tutorials, lectures and courseware available in the university, like the social media etiquettes, creating social media strategy, turning twitter leads to customers, Klout for business, and a lot more.

How long does it need to be a certified Hootsuite professional?

It only took me about 2 days to finish the whole course, actually you can finish the course in one day if you really have the time. The certification only covers the Hootsuite features, so you don’t necessarily have to learn everything in the university then take the exam.

So if you have an hour a day, I think you could finish it about 3-5 days then take the exam.

How long is the exam and how hard is it?

The certification exam only have 40 questions with multiple choice wherein you’re given 1 hour to answer it all. It’s not that really hard if you listen to the videos and take it all in. There are some tricky questions but you can totally get it if you understand everything.

What if I fail, can I retake it?

I actually failed at the first try, I needed 4 more questions to get the pass the grade of 95% which is really high. You get the option to retake it again, and answering only the questions that you got it wrong. So the second round, I only needed to answer the 4 questions.

Is it worth it to enroll to Hootsuite University?

I’d say yes, I never claim to be really good at social media. I’m more on SEO, but with Hootsuite University, learning new stuff and more about social media and using it for business can really help me boost my career and the knowledge that I have.

They update their videos, they have something new to offer every now and then, and I can tell because they put the word “new” on the title of the courseware.

Is it worth it to be a Hootsuite certified professional?

Honestly, I don’t know yet since I’ve been just recently become certified but give me a couple of months to know if it is appealing to clients.

Why Take Advantage of Social Media for Customer Service?

A lot of us social media users express our feelings and experiences online through our social media accounts. As a customer ourselves we sometimes take advantage of social media on reaching out to businesses whom we’ve tried their products or experience their service, and give them a feedback. Which can be a positive or negative feedback about their business.
But, as a business owner have you ever thought of taking advantage of social media too? You can totally make use of the social media sites in building your name online, marketing, and reaching out to your potential customers. This is not new, a lot of business owners have already take advantage and do use this but it’s just that some business owners are not yet that familiar with this (including here in the Philippines) and some just are not that open for changes towers the improvement of their company.

Other than using social media for your marketing campaigns, you can totally use it for customer service. 3 Reasons Why I Don’t Like Using Time Tracking Software
I’ve been working online since 2009, even when I was still a student. So yes, I’ve been working online for 5 years now, but worked as a SEO specialist just for 4 years and since I’ve worked as a SEO I’ve never accepted a job that has or use a time tracking software.

I’ve rejected a number of jobs just because of the time tracking software. I do understand the employers’ side why they do want us virtual assistant’s use the software, but let me share with you today a couple of reasons why I don’t like to use a tracking software and they are:

Slows me down. 

Depending on the scope of the job and computer specs, using a time tracker can totally slow anyone down. It uses a lot of the computer memory and always active to record every move (well, most of the software I’ve used do) and anything I open, plus some take screenshots.

One of the software that my previous employer use do make my computer hang up when it takes screenshot, luckily I’m not using any heavy software back then since I was just working as a researcher. But if I’ll have this again and doing my current job, it can be really hard for me – imagine the software I need to use (e.g. Photoshop for social media images) and number of sites and tools I have to open to ensure the quality of links I’ll be building, there are even times that I am slow without a time tracker what more if I use it.

Quality of Work.

Basing on my experience using the time tracker software, I’ve become more conscious on what I do not what I am working on. The quality of work will be at risk which I don’t like to sacrifice especially when we’re talking about building links, we need to build quality links to be able to deliver quality work and get great results – and that is ranking the client’s site.

Bad Habit.

One of the result that I got from these software is that I’ve developed a (really) bad habit. That is, checking the time every 10-15 minutes even I’m not working, I’m out with friends, events, or meetings. Which is really not nice when you’re with important people, I look like I need to be somewhere else that is more important than them. Which is such a no-no when you’re presenting, speaking in public or with a client meeting.

Again, I do understand that employers need to have us virtual assistant’s use this type of software and I read about 15 reasons why business owners need to use the software for their team. But personally, as a SEO specialist I prefer to avoid jobs with time tracker since I’m still trying to lessen the time checkup for 4 years.
